Maker Space
Our maker space in Berkhamsted has all the tools and machines you need to innovate within your craft, take your hobby project to the next level, or discover a new passion for making.
Run by and for our members, when you join the space, you join a local community of makers, designers, hackers, and hobbyists and have a say in the way in which the space is setup and managed. Choose to use the space during our open hours with our maker membership package or become a community member and join us during our open workshop evenings and events.
Facilities
The wood shop is our dusty work space with a wide range of hand and power tools alongside some of our CNC routers and other bits of kit. You can reserve a bench in the workshop and use all the hand tools for £5 an hour or book the larger machines individually.
The digital maker space is for electronics, 3D Printing, programming, VR, and some ceramics work. It's where are members like to hang out when having a cup of tea or discussing their latest projects.
We've got three laser cutters at D-Lab which are always really popular. They're kept in top condition by our volunteers and are great for cutting plywood and acrylic.
How do I join?
You can sign up as a maker member and visit anytime during the week or register as a community member which means you can visit during any of our open workshops. Find out more below.
Do I need to have experience with the machines?
All members must attend an induction for each machine they wish to use (excluding hand tools) - after the induction you'll know everything you need to get making.
How often are you open?
The maker space is open during our normal office hours and Tuesday evenings until 9 pm. We would like to open more often but rely on volunteers.
How do I volunteer?
If you'd like to become a volunteer, host community events, or run a workshop please get in touch.
Who runs the maker space?
The maker space is run for and by its members. It is financed by our co-working space and membership contributions. All profits are redirected back to the space to renew and maintain the equipment.
